Queen Elizabeth II: On the death of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, a day of state mourning will be observed across the country on Sunday in her honor. The Queen died on Thursday. “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland passed away on 8 September 2022,” an official statement said. In honor of the late Queen, the Government of India has decided to observe a day-long state mourning across the country on September 11.

From President to Prime Minister expressed condolences

On the day of state mourning, the national flag will remain at half-mast at all buildings across the country where the national flag is flown regularly, and no official entertainment activities will be held on that day, an official statement said. President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. “In her messages, she said that she was a stalwart of our times; A kind personality, who provided inspiring leadership to his nation and people.”

Elizabeth II visited India three times

Queen Elizabeth II was accorded a grand welcome in 1961 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan where she addressed a large gathering in the presence of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and also formally inaugurated a campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Queen Elizabeth II had visited India three times on a state visit. The Queen made her first royal visit to India with her husband Prince Philip in July 1961, seven years after her coronation in 1953. The royal couple also visited Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. He had visited the Taj Mahal in Agra and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Raj Ghat in New Delhi. The royal couple also visited India in 1983 and 1997.
