The West Bengal government declared that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will supplant the Governor as Chancellor of all state-run colleges.
The choice was taken by the state bureau on Thursday, May 26. In like manner, regulation will be changed by the state government in the gathering to make CM the Chancellor of state-run colleges.
The express bureau’s choice was reported by Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu after the bureau meeting.
The choice comes in the scenery of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s disagreements with the state government over arrangements of bad habit chancellors across colleges. Lead representative Jagdeep Dhankhar had before supposed that the state government had selected a few Vice-Chancellors without Raj Bhavan’s assent.
Recently, Governor Dhankhar had asserted that VCs of 25 colleges were selected wrongfully without Chancellor’s endorsement.
Quite, in December last year, Bratya Basu expressed that there was a need to look at whether the Governor ought to be the Chancellor of Universities.
“The time has come to introspect whether we ought to go on with the pioneer tradition of the Governor being the Chancellor of Universities just by the prudence of his post or we ought to select prominent researchers and educationists as Chancellors,” Bratya Basu said in a tweet.
